How to Visit Nauyaca Waterfalls from Manuel Antonio
Getting there, your options for reaching the falls, what to bring, and the best time to go for a swim at Nauyaca.
April 6, 2026

Nauyaca is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful waterfalls: a two-tier cascade dropping into a wide pool you can swim in. It sits inland from the coast near Dominical, an easy day trip from Manuel Antonio.
Getting there
From Manuel Antonio it is roughly an hour's drive south toward Dominical. From the entrance, the falls are a few kilometers into the reserve — the fun part is choosing how you cover that stretch.
Your options at the falls
You can hike in on a scenic trail, ride in by 4x4 truck, or go on horseback — the classic Nauyaca experience. The hike is the most active option; the 4x4 is quickest and easiest for families and mixed fitness levels.
What to bring
Pack a swimsuit, towel, water, reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and sturdy shoes. Mornings are best: the light is beautiful, temperatures are cooler, and you will often have the pool to yourself before day-trippers arrive.
The simplest way to visit is with transport and a guide who handles the logistics. See our Nauyaca Waterfalls day tour for pickup times and what's included.
